Nigeria, FAO Renew Commitment to Livestock Growth

The Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, on Thursday, 4th December 2025, led a delegation from the Ministry, including the Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria (CVON), Dr. Samuel Anzaku, on a courtesy visit to the FAO Country Office in Abuja, where they were received by the FAO Representative in Nigeria and ECOWAS, Dr. Hussein Gadain.

The visit provided an opportunity to reaffirm the Federal Government’s commitment to deepening its collaboration with FAO in sustainable livestock development, strengthening animal health and disease surveillance systems, and advancing national food security. 

The Minister acknowledged FAO’s longstanding technical support and expressed readiness to scale up joint efforts under the One Health approach to enhance productivity and resilience across livestock value chains.

Dr. Gadain commended the Minister’s leadership and reiterated FAO’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s livestock priorities.
