FG Applauds Livestock Stakeholders’ Unified Platform to Drive Sector Transformation
The Federal Government has welcomed the formation of a unified platform by key stakeholders in Nigeria’s livestock value chain, describing it as a major step towards strengthening collaboration, improving coordination and accelerating the transformation of the sector.
The partnership brings together three major livestock associations — the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), the National Association of Cattle Dealers, Processors and Marketers of Nigeria (NACDPAAMN), and the Amalgamated Union of Foodstuff and Cattle Dealers of Nigeria (AUFCDN) — alongside United States-based partners: International Meat Processors LLC (IMP), Fulcrum Technologies, and Fulcrum Sovereign Impact Capital LLC, providing technical, digital and investment support.
The Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, expressed delight at the new synergy among livestock industry players and congratulated the stakeholders for coming together under a common framework to support the Federal Government’s efforts to reposition the sector.
Speaking during a meeting with representatives of the platform on Tuesday 21st July 2026 in Abuja, the Minister said a coordinated approach among producers, processors, marketers, service providers and other value chain actors is essential to unlocking the vast economic potential of Nigeria’s livestock industry.
"The livestock sector requires collective action. By working together, producers, processors, marketers and other value chain actors can unlock the immense potential of the sector, attract investment and create sustainable economic opportunities for Nigerians," he noted.
Mukhtar reassured the stakeholders of the Ministry’s commitment to providing policy direction and an enabling environment to support private sector participation, investment mobilisation and value chain development.
Earlier, representatives of the coalition led by the National President of MACBAN, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, informed the Minister that the platform was established to create a single, coordinated structure through which livestock industry actors can collaborate with government, access improved services and contribute more effectively to sector growth.
He explained that the initiative seeks to modernise the livestock ecosystem through digital registration, traceability systems, improved access to finance, veterinary services, market linkages, infrastructure development and enhanced opportunities for value addition and exports.
Speaking on behalf of the partners, Chief Executive Officer of International Meat Processors LLC, Abdullah Salem, described the initiative as a collective commitment by livestock stakeholders to build a modern framework that strengthens food security, attracts investment and positions Nigeria as a competitive player in the global livestock market.
“Today, Nigeria’s livestock industry has chosen to stand together. The organisations that represent this economy, under the leadership of the Ministry, have laid the foundation for a modern national livestock sector, one that serves its members, attracts investment, strengthens food security and can compete anywhere in the world,” Salem said.
He added that the partnership would focus on improving access to finance, insurance, veterinary services, market information, training and transparent transactions, while supporting investments in critical infrastructure such as modern markets, processing facilities, cold-chain systems, breeding and feed infrastructure.
